10 days hidden gems of South Tanzania

Ruaha National Park is the third largest national park in Tanzania. It lies along the Great Ruaha River, known for its large elephant and a wide variety of antelope are another big draw to the park. For the bird lover there are over 570 bird species.
In Ruaha National Parks park you have the chance to catch a glimpse of lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, crocodiles, elands, sable antelopes, jackals or the rare African wild dog. You will encounter far fewer tourists (90% less), which gives a safari in this part a more exclusive feeling.

Day 1: Dar es Salaam
You'll be picked up by our enthusiastic guide at Julius Nyerere Airport. He'll take you to your accommodation where you can relax after your long flight.

Day 2: Selous game reserve
After breakfast, your guide will give you an introduction at the hotel and then drive to the Selous Game Reserve, approximately a four-hour drive away. You'll arrive at the hippo camp in time for lunch. The camp is nestled in the forest along the banks of the impressive Rufiji River.
You'll take part in an afternoon boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River, where you can see plenty of hippos, crocodiles, and birds.
Afterward, we'll head to your accommodation where you can reflect on a wonderful day. You'll spend the night in a tented camp located in the northeastern part of the Selous Game Reserve on a high bank overlooking the Rufiji River and the plain beyond.
It is located 7 kilometers from the entrance to Nyerere National Park. The camp blends seamlessly into its riverside surroundings, offering a sense of seclusion and relaxation.

Day 3:Iringa town
We start our day early and, after breakfast, head from Selous Game Reserve straight to Iringa, where we'll take packed lunches. Via Morogoro, we'll drive through a rural area with beautiful landscapes, valleys, and mountains. We'll have lunch halfway. Because it's a long drive from Selous to Ruaha, we'll spend the night in Iringa.

Day 5: Ruaha National Park
After breakfast at the lodge/hotel, you can enjoy a full-day safari. The park is home to several antelope species rare in most of Tanzania, such as the greater kudu, the sable, the roan, and the crocodile. The mighty Ruaha River flows along the entire eastern border between two rivers, the Njombe in the north and the Ruaha in the east. This river creates spectacular gorges and landscapes and is home to a large number of hippos.
In the late afternoon, we return to Ruaha Hilltop Lodge.

Day 6: Ruaha National Park
Another full-day game drive to enjoy. We'll explore Ruaha National Park again. The park is known for its sable and roan antelope, herds of over 10,000 elephants, vast concentrations of buffalo, gazelles, and over 400 bird species.
You can choose from our favorite activities: a game drive or a walking safari with an armed ranger. You'll often discover small creatures not often seen from a vehicle, but you can also have exciting encounters with large animals.

Day 7: Selous Game Reserve
We depart early in the morning for a scenic drive to Selous Game Reserve.

Day 8 and 9: Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, you will embark on a two-day safari in Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve. You will have the chance to see a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and more. In addition, you will marvel at the diverse bird species and the breathtaking landscapes, featuring different terrains such as dry grasslands, light acacia woodlands, and rolling hills that offer panoramic views of distant mountains. Enjoy your picnic lunch at the picnic spot your guide will choose.

Day 10: Dar es Salaam
After a wonderful few days, you'll be returned to Dar es Salaam. You can take your beautiful experiences home with you.
Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, you will be dropped off at the airport. If you choose to stay another night in Dar es Salaam, we can book your hotel for you for an additional fee.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport, you'll receive a warm welcome from your driver/guide and be taken to your hotel in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha National Park
You'll drive to Arusha National Park, where you'll embark on an exciting walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger. You'll hike through open plains and along the foothills of Mount Meru until you reach the waterfalls. While walking, you can observe the animals: a completely different experience than from a jeep! There's a good chance you'll see the black and white colobus monkeys. You'll enjoy a well-prepared picnic lunch in the park.
You'll then continue your safari by vehicle before returning to your accommodation in Arusha, where you can enjoy an evening drink in the complex's garden.

Day 3: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, you'll leave Arusha and drive towards Tarangire National Park, where you'll spend the entire day. This park is also called "the elephant's playground" because of their numerous presence. Besides elephants, you'll also see wildebeest, giraffes, impalas, and warthogs. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a cheetah or a lion. You'll drive through beautiful nature and vast savannas lined with baobab trees. You'll have a picnic at a beautiful spot. Around sunset, you'll return to your accommodation where you can spend the evening under the stars.

Day 4: Tarangire National Park
Today you'll spend a full day in Tarangire. The park is large enough to accommodate several days. After breakfast, you'll set off early to explore the beautiful Tarangire National Park.

Day 5: the Ngorongoro Region
The day starts after the breakfast with the safari. A picnic lunch is included along the way. Then you'll drive to karatu town near Ngorongoro Region. today You'll continue exploring a beautifull place interacting with the different people from different tribes living in a small village called Mto wa Mbu you'll visit this village and learning more about the banana and rice plantation then drive to karatu town for overnight

Day 6: In the Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, you'll descend to the crater floor for a fantastic safari. The Ngorongoro Crater is the remnant of a gigantic volcano that may have been as high as 5 kilometers. An estimated 30,000 large mammals live in the crater. Almost all of Africa's large animals can be found here: buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, black rhinos, elephants, lions, cheetahs, and hippos. It's also called the "Garden of Eden" or "Paradise on Earth." Every day, the Maasai descend into the crater with their herds of cattle to water them. The 40,000 Maasai are the only ones allowed to enter the crater without a vehicle. You'll have lunch at the crater lake during your safari. After an impressive day, you'll leave the crater and drive back to your hotel. Time to relax and reflect on everything while enjoying a drink.

Day 7:Lake Eyasi
After breakfast, you'll drive to Lake Eyasi to meet the Datoga and Hadzabe Bushmen, the last remaining hunter-gatherers. You'll arrive at Lake Eyasi before noon. First, you'll visit the Datoga. Their culture and customs are closely related to those of the Maasai. They are sedentary and live primarily from livestock herding, although they also practice agriculture. You'll visit the local blacksmith and admire some wood carvings. Afterwards, you'll continue to your luxury tented camp where you'll have lunch and relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 8: Hadzabe Bushmen
Rise at sunrise to watch the Hadzabe Bushmen begin their day. Try building a fire with just a stick! Join a group of men and boys on a hunt. You'll discover the Hadzabe are skilled archers: they hit anything that moves. With a little luck, you'll enjoy a local bush breakfast, complete with hides and feathers. Try to strike up a conversation with them; the Hadzabe are happy to help. The Hadzabe speak Hadzane, a click-based language. "When you walk with them, you don't just see the bush. You hear its heartbeat."
Return to camp for a full breakfast and refreshments. After lunch, drive to Karatu, where you can relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 9: Back to Arusha
After breakfast, visit a working coffee plantation.
Macadamia nuts are also grown and processed here. This plantation is not touristy at all. All coffee is still hand-picked. The views are magnificent, and the road to the plantation is beautiful. A delicious cup of coffee and a picnic lunch are included. Then you continue to Arusha where you can let all the impressions sink in and relax in your hotel

Day 10: Usambara Mountains
After breakfast, we drive to the Usambara Mountains, halfway between Kilimanjaro and the Indian Ocean. It's a long day of driving, but you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views! Along the way, we'll enjoy a picnic lunch. The Usambara Mountains are a hiker's paradise. The Usambara Mountains are lush and green, covered in virgin tropical rainforest that has long been isolated. From March to May, many hiking trails may be impassable due to rainfall. You'll always enjoy stunning views and the welcoming and charming villages. Lushoto is the regional capital, but we'll climb even higher, to a place with one of the most beautiful views in Tanzania! You'll stay in an ecolodge that promotes sustainable tourism in harmony with nature, the environment, and the local population.

Day 11: Usambara Mountains
Today you'll spend a full day in the mountains. All meals are included. We'll explore the tropical rainforest and take cultural walks.

Day 12: To the Swahili Coast
After breakfast, you'll drive to the Swahili Coast near Pangani. It's one of the most rich and diverse coastal areas in the world.
Time to enjoy this beautiful place, the tropical beach life, and Swahili culture in a quiet, less touristy setting. The Swahili Coast offers a beautiful blend of history and the clear waters of the Indian Ocean.
Here you'll find beautiful white beaches with palm trees and a turquoise sea that doesn't reach the shore. Further offshore, you can sometimes spot dolphins from one of the small islands, snorkel, or simply swim in the crystal-clear water. You can also explore the lush and unspoiled interior. A stay here also offers the opportunity to experience the local Arabic and Swahili culture and see remnants of a rich past.

Days 13 and 14: Free days on the Swahili Coast
After breakfast, you have a free day on the Swahili Coast. You can relax or book one of the activities available, such as kayaking, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, diving, cycling, and more. Lunch is included. Your car and driver will be with you should you wish to explore further by car.

Day 15: Return to Arusha
After breakfast, you'll return to Arusha. It's another long day of driving, but the scenery along the way will make up for it, and today you'll be staying in a gem!

Day 16: Back Home
If you have a late flight, you'll visit the Cultural Heritage Museum in the morning. This is a place where art and artifacts from the past and present are displayed in one place. A wonderful way to end this trip. Your guide will take you back to the airport, hoping you go home with a warm heart for Tanzania.

Day 1: Arusha
Your guide will pick you up at Kilimanjaro Airport and warmly welcome you to "Karibu Tanzania."
He will take you to your hotel, and while enjoying a drink, you will receive a briefing for the coming days.

Day 2: Materuni and Lake Chala
After breakfast, we drive to the village of Materuni, where we'll take a nature walk in the Marangu area and visit communities engaged in cultural tourism to experience their living culture. Take a dip in the water formed by the waterfalls and enjoy a hot lunch with a coffee-making demonstration.
Then we drive to Lake Chala, located near the Kenyan border. Lake Chala is a caldera lake fed by clean, cold underground streams flowing from Mount Kilimanjaro itself. It is known for its dazzling, ever-changing colors: from deep turquoise to emerald green to azure, and every shade in between. It's the perfect place to relax, swim in the refreshing water, or hike in the picturesque landscape surrounding the lake.
Canoeing is also available for €6 per hour.

Day 3: Mkomazi National Park
After a delicious breakfast, we depart for Mkomazi National Park, a true safari paradise.
At the entrance, you'll transfer to an open government safari vehicle, which you'll drive into the reserve with a ranger. You'll visit the Mbula Rhino Sanctuary, a protected area within the park home to more than 35 rhinos. You'll encounter few other safari jeeps here and will be able to admire the impressive black rhinos up close. You'll also encounter animals such as giraffes, antelope, buffalo, lions, and leopards.
In the evening, you'll relish all the impressions you've gained that day. After a dinner under the stars, you'll drift off to sleep surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Today we drive to the Usambara Mountains, with their lush green mountains south of Mkomazi National Park. Because this area is ideal for hiking, we'll take a guided walk. This hike takes you over rolling hills, past waterfalls, farmland, plantations, picturesque villages, and colorful markets.

Day 6: Swahili Coast
After breakfast, we depart for the Swahili Coast. The Swahili Coast in Tanzania is a historically and culturally rich region, known for its beautiful beaches, unique culture, and diverse wildlife. The beaches and coral reefs along the Swahili Coast near Pangani are among the most beautiful on the Tanzanian mainland. Here you'll find stunning white beaches lined with palm trees, as well as surprising natural beauty and remnants of a rich past.
It's wonderful to relax on the beach after arriving.

Day 7:Maziwe Island
Today you're scheduled to visit Maziwe Island. You'll be picked up from your hotel by boat and taken to the island. Your driver has brought snorkeling gear, so don't forget your swimsuit. You'll have plenty of time to explore the underwater world!

Days 8 and 9: Saadani National Park
After breakfast, we depart for Saadani National Park, a park bordering the water. In Saadani National Park, the animals live right on the Indian Ocean.
It's truly special to spot all those animals in Tanzania's newest national park. We'll see elephants, lions, leopards, and buffalo coming to the Indian Ocean. What's even more special is that there's a good chance we'll see them walking along the beach. We'll also see waterbucks, gazelles, giraffes, warthogs, hippos, crocodiles, and baboons.
Meet the locals by visiting their village. See where the children learn and watch the daily lives of the local men and women on an excursion to the local Saadani village. The villagers are keen and excited to meet travellers from foreign lands. The villagers love to entertain guests with their localtraditions and teach about their way of life.
How wonderful it is to go on safari during the day and relax on the beach in the evening!

Day 10: Dar es Salaam Airport
It's all coming to an end. Today you'll depart for home from Dar es Salaam Airport. We certainly hope that you go home with a suitcase full of beautiful memories.
